M5Burner Common Issues and Solutions

Compatibility Issues

Issue Description

When using M5Burner to flash firmware on Intel-based Mac devices, if the error message Error:spawn Unknown system error -86 appears as shown below, you can refer to the following solution.

Steps

  1. Download the esptool-v5.0.1 tool and extract it to obtain the esptool tool.

  2. On the Mac device, open Finder, click the Go tab at the top, find Applications, and click to open it.

  1. In Applications, find m5burner.app, right-click it, and select Show Package Contents.
  1. Go to the Contents/Resources/packages/tool directory, and use the esptool tool downloaded in Step 1 to replace the esptool tool in this directory.

Launch Issues

Issue Description

When launching M5Burner, there is no response / a white screen / it fails to start / no firmware information is displayed.

Steps

  1. Try switching networks, turning off the proxy, and disabling the system firewall.
  2. Check whether the email and password are entered correctly. If you have confirmed they are correct, check the verification email. If you did not receive the verification email, contact Taobao customer service, or email M5Stack official support at support@m5stack.com for assistance.

Flashing Issues

Invalid Chip is shown when flashing firmware.

Processing Steps

Please first obtain the device’s MAC address, then provide this address to Taobao customer service, or send it to the M5Stack official email support@m5stack.com, and clearly explain the related reason at the same time. Get mac failed is shown when flashing firmware

Issue Description

When flashing UiFlow2 firmware, the error message Get mac failed appears.

Steps

This message typically appears when flashing UiFlow2 firmware. The main reason is that the device is not in download mode; please follow the instructions in the device documentation to put the device into download mode to resolve the issue.
