Windows Version Requirements

  • Press Win+R, type winver, to check the current Windows version information.

  • Only supports Windows 10 (64-bit) and Windows 11 (64-bit).

  • Press Win+I to open Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, automatically update Windows version. For Windows 10, it is recommended to use Microsoft Update Assistant to upgrade to version 22H2.

  • Disable system sleep function: Press Win+I to open Settings > System > Power & Sleep > Change sleep to Never.

Environment Preparation

  1. It is recommended to disable antivirus software to avoid false blocking during installation.

  2. Download the VS2022 runtime library VC_redist.x64.exe from Microsoft download link, and install VC_redist.x64.exe with administrator privileges.

  3. Power off the PC and connect the device to the motherboard (do not plug or unplug with power on).

  4. After booting, press Win+R, type devmgmt.msc, to open Device Manager. An unknown multimedia video controller should appear under Other Devices. The VENDOR property should be 1F4B.

Driver Installation

Note
Installation and uninstallation both require administrator privileges, system sleep must be disabled. If the system has an old AXCL version installed, please uninstall it first!
  1. The Windows release package axcl_win64_setup_Vx.x.x_yyyymmdd_NOxxxx.exe automatically installs drivers, dynamic libraries (including import libraries), executables (such as axcl-smi.exe), and sample source code. Run the package with administrator privileges and follow the prompts to install. Click Download link.
  1. Select the latest installation package for the Windows platform.
  1. Click Install.
  1. It is recommended to select all options for installation.
  1. Be sure to choose the installation path carefully. This directory contains executables, uninstaller, header files, and dynamic libraries.
  1. Wait until installation completes, then restart your computer.
  1. After rebooting, press Win+R, type devmgmt.msc, to open Device Manager. Under System Devices, you should see Axera NPU Accelerator Device as shown below.
  1. Navigate to AXCL\axcl\out\axcl_win_x64\bin, and run axcl-smi.exe in Windows Terminal. You will see output similar to below:

Driver Uninstallation

  1. Navigate to the AXCL installation directory and run uninst.exe to uninstall.

Program Compilation

Tip
AXCL Windows SDK can be compiled using VS2022/VS2026 toolchain. The required environment dependencies are as follows:

Visual Studio Community 2026 , reference Official documentation. Required component: Desktop development with C++.

  • cmake, version above 3.20

  • ninja, recommended v1.31.1. Add ninja.exe path to system environment variable Path.

  • Python3, can be installed via conda.

Environment installation as shown:

Go to AXCL\axcl\scripts and execute build_win64.cmd to start compilation.

Successful build example:

Navigate to the output directory and run axcl_run_model.exe -m yolo11s.axmodel -r 10. Remember to replace with your own model path. Precompiled programs and model download

Tip
For demo compilation reference, check Repository Windows branch. It is recommended to use vcpkg to install opencv4:x64-windows and configure it in your project.
